From start to finish I can’t fault Alvaston Loft Conversion’s, they have built a fantastic hip to gable and dormer conversion for us on our semi detached property in Sutton Coldfield that both my wife and I are extremely happy with. Like all projects we had highs and lows but Jamie and his dedicated and flexible team stuck to the timeframe they specified, and believe me I had reservations that they could do the task so quickly. The design phase was painful and time consuming, but not due to Alvaston’s, this was down to the local planning office. Jamie and Scott the architect were happy to go the extra mile and assist with a redesign that came under permitted development and didn’t lose the character of our 1930’s house from the street. Joey and Rocky who project managed the build kept us informed through the whole process and gave us options and great advice as we looked to maximise the space in the master suite. After scanning Pinterest we simply didn’t want a run of the mill loft conversion. We did our research on local companies and I can say hand on heart that we did the right thing in trusting Alvaston’s to deliver the vision we had. I’ve attached a few external photos to give an idea of the transformation from the rear of the property. We hope to enjoy making use of the space for many years to come.

A bit of an awkward project from the outset (small access space; foam insulated roofing tiles; Bournville Trust approval process; space saver staircase) – but a professional team and a quality outcome. Alvaston Loft Conversions, installed an electric Velux roof window in our bathroom and the installation of a Lead slate with a mushroom Cowl for an electric fan.
They gave us the most competitive quotation covering installation, plastering and electrical installation.
Firstly they carried out the work as per our agreed quotation and on time. All of the tradesmen used were of the highest quality, professional, approachable, and cleaned up after themselves so we hardly new they had been working in our home.

After talking to jamie for 5 minutes there was no doubt who was going to build my loft, he was very confident and knowledgeable. We contracted Alvaston to convert our loft to a bedroom/ensuite. A fabulous job from start to finish. All contractors were highly skilled, professional and friendly. The standard of work is excellent. After the loft was completed we asked them to redesign and fit a new bathroom – again fantastic job. We’ve just had our loft converted using Alvaston and we’re delighted with the outcome. We had a number of companies provide us with quotes for our conversion, but too many companies we just seemed to be “another” conversion and they didn’t particularly offer any input to the design/layout of our conversion. Alvaston on the other hand spent a long time discussing various options with us, and what benefits each option would provide.
They took great care during the conversion not to damage anything within our home, and protected all of the floors and staircase – they even protected the wallpaper !

We had a dormer fitted to the rear of our property giving us a large bedroom and an en-suite. From the start of the process Alvaston were great. We were given a build plan which explained the four week process from start to finish. The team were very nice, always respected our property, were very approachable and never turned up late. We required a few bits of additional work along the way (due to age of house etc..) and these items were dealt with very professionally and at the best possible price. Overall our experience with Alvaston has been fantastic, i certainly was not an easy client but Jamie and the team made me feel at ease all the way through the build. The conversion in our loft was completed within 7 weeks and Jamie, Matt and their colleagues who have created a wonderful light and airy space for us. Alvaston have just completed our project, converting the garage into a utility, toilet and small store. Alvaston arrived on time and the work was finished on time and to a high standard. Alvaston were brilliant. The workmanship was outstanding and the job was completed within the estimated time. Jamie always answers his phone and his suggestions made a big difference to the success of the build. The project manager was professional and took time to understand what we wanted. What was also appreciated were little things like the lads helping my neighbour when she was struggling with her car, and generally being very respectful of us and our neighbours throughout. There were some additional payments at the end that were a fair price for the additional work completed but it would have been helpful to know the costs as we went along. It’s been 22 years since we had this company do our loft conversion. We live in a Victorian house, and had our loft converted to become a self enclosed flat for my mum to come and live with us.
Jamie Ernie and Crew made it possible for her to have complete independence and yet still have her family around her. They built her a completely self enclosed flat in our roof space with kitchen bedroom bathroom and sitting room.
Now 22 years later we we have very sadly lost her – but what these guys did made a huge difference to both hers and our lives. What they built has certainly stood us the test of time.
The odd lick of paint and updates to soft furnishings was all it ever needed over the years whilst we still had mom with us.
Now it’s time to make some changes so we decided to convert the loft (moms space) into a master bedroom – we needed to know if some of the internal walls dividing the rooms could come down to create a large open space.
So 22 years later I met with Jamie again to relook at the plans and advise if this would be a problem – we had planned on removing the internal wall ourselves.
He was good enough to confirm that indeed this could happen and has recommended that if we are at all unsure during the removal process to give him a call.
i cannot fault this company – our loft looks as good today as the day it was finished with great attention to detail and superb after-service even 22 years on.

Alvaston were incredibly professional and efficient. They did the work exactly to time and budget and communication was excellent throughout. We are delighted with the finish and quality of work. Alvaston were a pleasure to work with and I would recommend them to anyone.

Our loft conversion with Alveston was finished at the start of this year (2022), and I would fully recommend them. Their quote was comparable to the other companies, but we decided to go with Alvaston because they had had great reviews and Jamie is personable, knowledgeable and experienced. We received design drawings with all the measurements and plans for 2 possible options with our loft, which were very useful. Jamie kept us informed of when they were likely to be able to start the work, and when our date came round the whole process ran extremely smoothly. We were told when the scaffolding would be up, and the portaloo and skip, and what time the builders would arrive. What I especially appreciated with this company was that it was a seamless process; because they have teams to do the build, a plumber, electrician, roofing team, plasterer etc, as soon as the main build was done, the plumber was already booked in to do the next part, and likewise with the electrician. It was so well organised! The finish of the work is exceptional and the new stairs up to the loft room look like they were always part of the house (Alvaston also make their own stairs so they fitted perfectly). All of the tradesmen were professional and super helpful (e.g. when I couldn’t decide over a multitude of bathroom options), they also flagged up issues as they found them and offered to fix if we wanted (e.g. a channel on our roof that was disintegrating – they replaced this while the scaffolding was up, which would have been much more expensive to do separately). Of course, any building work is disruptive, but they were tidy and thoughtful, and didn’t leave anything messy or dangerous out when they finished for the day. We are completely thrilled with our conversion and would recommend Alvaston without hesitation!

Alvaston has just finished our loft conversion and we couldn’t be happier. During lockdown and with the children at home it could have been a horrible experience but Jamie and his whole team have been excellent. Everyone that worked on our house was polite and pleasant, cleaning up at the end of each day.

The seamless coordination of it all was brilliant with everything falling into place from the electrician and plumber to skip hire and scaffolding. Alvaston managed the whole process without us needing to get involved.

Is it a good idea to have a loft conversion over Christmas in lockdown whilst both working full time from home and home schooling 2 primary school aged children? YES if its Alvaston!
As the other reviews say, Alvaston really are professional, reliable and deliver high quality workmanship. For us, the professionalism of the workmen was paramount – we were in a tricky situation but everyone who came through the door was considerate to our meetings/timetable, worked in a Covid secure way and with child appropriate language at all times! All workers were thorough, they cleaned and tidied after themselves and they made sure the stairwell was blocked every evening before they left -just in case any small eyes got curious!
Whilst we’ve had some work done around the house this is the biggest undertaking to date. We were guided through the process with helpful suggestions but never felt forced to compromise. There are no straight walls or matching angels in our house so I think its fair to say it was a more challenging job for Alvaston but we were none the wiser. We never felt stressed by the conversion or its ‘challenges’ (I’m not sure if Jamie and everyone else would say the same!) and we would happily do it all over again.
So, if you are reading this to decide if Alvaston are worth it, the answer is yes, definitely yes. If you are looking for honest, reliable people who will treat your home with care and consideration and do everything to get the best job done; Alvaston are the company for you.

I would like to thank Jamie and his team for seeing the full potential of my loft space. Alveston completed a two bedroom loft conversion for me (1 bedroom with ensuite).
I was really impressed with the team. They were always on time and tidied up after themselves at the end of the day. They were always very pleasant and helpful, sorting out any queries I had. The quality of workmanship and materials were of a high standard. The job was very well organised and the works were estimated to take 4-5 weeks and were completed on programme.

So pleased that I choose Alvaston Loft Conversions for the job, & have recommended them to colleagues for future works. From day I was guided through exactly what would be happening day by day / week by week & if there was going to be any delays in this, I was told well in advance. All of the structural work was done within their specified time limit but sourcing of materials extended the deadline for completion, nevertheless we never felt forgotten and always felt that we were working alongside a highly professional and confident team. They have been so easy to approach and provided excellent follow through and after care which should also be noted.

Together with Richard and Penfold they transformed our loft into a beautiful double bedroom with en suite. Ade did a beautiful job tiling our new en suite. Rocky and Ross’s carpentry skills were brilliant and Bob and his crew did a lovely job on our new roof. Jonah the plasterer, the electricians, and plumber’s work was all second to none. Built our conversion 5 years ago had a recent issue with roof leaking on site within 24 hours roof repaired and ceiling painted within next 34 hours.
First class service during and after the build

We’ve just had our loft conversion finished. After a kitchen extension that went badly a few years ago we wanted quite a big company for our loft so we weren’t reliant on subcontractors and the builders’ cashflow. Had a few quotes but liked Jamie’s enthusiasm and vision so we went with Alvaston. Maybe could have got it cheaper from a small outfit but we wanted someone that does this day in day out.

There was a bit of a waiting list which is a good sign, but we had contact throughout when we needed it. We built our loft during the depths of winter so I was worried about water damage, but despite a couple of gnarly storms we had absolutely no issues at all.

All the crews were professional and seemed really good at what they do. You can tell they take pride in their work and were happy to offer suggestions/tweaks based on their experience which we were largely happy to take. They were working from 8 o clock every day they were on site.

We had a bit of a pause mid way through our build due to Covid and Christmas, but it was left in a wind/watertight state and being on the floor above it didn’t get in our way at all.

It’s a big project so there was mess and noise as you’d expect, but they always did their best to clean up at the end of each day which was appreciate. A messy week or two while getting the stairs in and knocking through, but you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs as they say.

Jamie the owner was always responsive if I had any questions or concerns, and would always get back to me the same day if I left him a message which was very reassuring.

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company. Just make sure you get a lot of teabags in on the days when there are a couple of crews working. We had nine people on site at one point which was interesting, but it meant the work got done quickly!

Jamie was a pleasure to deal from start through to completion, he was always accessible to us. All the workers were absolute professionals. They would naturally troubleshoot any concerns we had and would always be available to answer even the simplest of questions. They ensured the house was always kept as tidy as possible through the whole process.

I liked Jamie and the Alvaston approach from the off, he gave me advice but was never opinionated. He listened to me and my wife and when he made suggestions you could see he was thinking about our life in our home once he was gone. I genuinely thought he cared and every time I had a concern I called him on his mobile phone or via the office and he took the time to discuss things and always put me at ease.

In fact, quite often we were astounded at just how neat and tidy everything had been left! Alvaston has recently completed a superb loft conversion at our house which included a new ‘reversed’ staircase from the ground floor. The workers were polite, helpful, always on time and each of the tradesmen – carpenter, electrician, plasterer, plumber etc. – were skillful and produced high quality work. The project was completed within the promised timescale of just over three weeks. Very few issues arose but those that did were dealt with quickly and effectively. Basically Alvaston delivered EXACTLY what they promised to deliver and we are very pleased with the transformation to our home. We would highly recommend their services and workmanship.

Company founder Ernie Harper came to measure up our loft in the late 1990s and we knew Alvaston was the firm for us when we were ready.

In 2003, a month after the birth of our third baby, son Jamie and his team arrived ready to transform our house.

Even though we were having our entire roof replaced and rebuilt, never mind a loft extension including master bedroom, offset en suite and storage space, all requests to keep dust to a minimum were more than met and the team did a brilliant job from start to finish, arriving on site before 7.30am every day and always tidying up after themselves.

Our fireman neighbour said he had never seen such a good looking staircase when it arrived on our front lawn ready to be installed.

The rebuild was worth every penny and has given us so much space for our whole family to grow up.

The reclaimed slate roof is so much more sympathetic to our area than the concrete tiles so many people (and new housebuilders!) choose.

A year later, my wife’s sister had an even bigger loft conversion including two bedrooms and a bathroom. Again, no problems whatsoever.

Full marks to Jamie for recommending black fascia trims to the roof instead of conventional white – so much smarter!

Bizarrely, earlier this year, one of the fascia trims came undone at the roof apex after seriously high winds.

Jamie’s team said they had never seen such a problem before, but it was no problem at all.

A) they guaranteed it still would not rain in, and it didn’t.

B) they came to fix it in 20 minutes one day when they were next in our area – and at no charge.

How’s that for service after 12 years?

From meeting Jamie for our initial quote and explaining what we wanted and also that we would like the work completed before the arrival of our baby in the then 11 weeks time Jamie put our minds at ease and guaranteed that not only would we get exactly what we wanted 2 bedrooms a bathroom and storage space but we would get it to a high quality in 3 weeks from start to finish. I was skeptical to say the least however I need not have been with the arrival of Jims team the work began with 5 weeks before our baby was due. Every day we could see our dream developing and all the lads were extremely hard working and professional they were also very polite and friendly around our family. I cannot speak highly enough of Jim Sean and Joe the hard work and effort they put in on our first fix followed by Bob and his crew. All finished off by Richard and Matt. All arriving at 7.15 every morning starting work and not finishing till 4:30. True to their word the job was completed to an extremely high standard in 3 weeks. The lads even had to contend with me being admitted to hospital several times but they never waivered from the job in hand and it showed in the fact they finished on their deadline and in plenty of time before our baby arrived to get decorated and the rooms occupied by our boys. Very happy with our new home and have recommended to several people already. We have had nothing but compliments on the standard of our loft and how it has added the much needed space we needed for our growing family. Thank you all very much.

Jamie visited the school and we spoke about what improvements could be made to our main reception area, school hall and library. Jamie came back with fantastic ideas and plans with the improvements that could be made – ideas that we had not thought of. Work was completed to a very high standard and within the 8 day timeframe we had for this major work with no children in the school. Were do you start to look for the right company to convert your loft????

Myself and my husband didn’t know anyone who had converted their loft so I went on the internet and found 4 companies Alvaston was one of the companies. there quote was very good and they recommended us to go and have a look at a conversion that we had just finished. We were very impressed with there work so we decided to go with them.

Jim and his team were brilliant they arrived at 7.30 every morning and just got straight onto it. every member of the team were polite , trustworthy and they always cleaned up at the end of the day.

Within 2 and a half weeks we had a beautiful lost conversion It took us longer to decorate it:)

Having considered moving as we needed additional bedrooms for our growing family , we had previously discussed a loft conversion with others but considered it too much aggravation for little return.

a few months later we plucked a few numbers out of google, Alvaston being one of them. they were the closest to us so we gave the a bell. within 4 and bit week they were done and dusted ! Rich the carpenter done a superb job with all stairs and banisters custom making most of it to match every thing into the existing stairs.every day the house was left clean and the ladders removed outside.

all the materials were take via the scaffold Nothing was carried through the house. the whole experience was very good with no disruption to the day to day running of the house. all the lads interacted with kids which was very good , it was shame to see them go in the end !

Sorry for the late feedback!! We had work done in January and February of this year. We didn’t leave much time for Jamie, paul and the team as we were expecting a second child in the march (hence the late feedback). But they did it all to the highest standard in about 5 1/2 weeks including all plastering, carpentry and plumbing etc. Main building work was completed in 3 weeks. We had an existing single room dormer converted in to 2 rooms and a bathroom and the guys really managed to maximise the space. Any questions during the entire period were answered immediately and honestly. I would definitely use these guys again and have already recommended them to 2 friends. Oh, we had a new roof too.

I feel like I’ve just woken up after having a really pleasant dream.

Jamie from Alvaston came round to our house a few months ago and initially gave us a quote for our loft conversion. He promised me that the complete process start to finish would be no longer than 4 weeks. You know when you get that feeling about something being too good to be true, that’s exactly how we felt. However there was something about Jamie that made us feel like he meant what he said. Not only that, we had numerous companies give us quotes, but we just did not feel comfortable with what they were telling us.

Alvaston (Jamie) had the plans drawn up pretty quick. The Architect really knew his job and paid attention to every nook and cranny.

Jamie provisionally booked me in for the first week of March. I was worried that the work would not be completed within four weeks as we needed to leave the country at the start of April. However against all the odds Alvaston have completed the work yesterday, within the promised timeframe and most importantly to an absolutley supercalafragalisticexpielladicious standard.

Paul and his team worked tirelessly to for the first three weeks to get everything up and in place. They arrived at 7.30am on the dot and on leaving the house in the afternoon left everything spotless. The whole build was superbly organised and not once was anything allowed to go wrong. At the beginning of the forth week Alvaston had anything up to 10 guys working on the project each day. Bob and boys did a fantastic job on the roof while Rocky and co worked inside to complete all the capentry. Simultaneously Electricians and plumbers were completing the finishing touches alongside the bathroom tiling etc.

Jamie was aware about our deadline to go on holiday and so was everyone that was working on the project. The entire project was completed 2 days short of the four weeks. I have never seen anything like this before, I am totally gobsmacked. The neighbours have all commented on the suberb finish and high quality work. I have told Jamie that anybody who wishes to view the complete project is most welcome and I am personally willing to guarantee the quality of their work and their upmost professionalism. Words cannot express how grateful we are for the service that they have provided.

We can not thank Alvaston enough it has given us faith back in builders. We would highly recomend them to anyone what they promise they deliver and some. Even with a bank holiday in middle of work everything finished within four weeks. All really helpfull even for small questions or problems. Jamie or jim on hand at all times even when away on holiday with family Jamie still took calls to help sort any problems. We had Paul’s team and all worked really hard. Came at 7.30am each morning so they could tell me what was going on, then went home about 4.15pm. Bob was fantastic on the roof through high winds and heavy rain all really dedicated to making sure the job was of a high standard.
Rocky came to do the second fix things and his leavel of workmanship was fantastic. Even though he had lots to do he did not rush the job wanting it to be right as though it was at his home.

Alvaston have completed two large building projects at our school and on each occasion they have produced excellent results. Having worked with a large number of contractors over the years I can honestly say that Alvaston are by far the best. Throughout the building process they always worked conscientiously and although there was clear attention to detail and an obvious pride in their work, both projects were completed ahead of schedule. The reliability and honesty in their approach is extremely refreshing and I would have no hesitation in either recommending them to another potential client or employing them again on a future project.

The Team was brilliant, i would recommend them to everyone. They cleaned up after themselves, i was very impressed with their work and finish of my loft conversion. I was kept informed of all parts of work and included in any minor detail of the conversion.

Why did we select Alvaston ? We had considered undertaking a loft conversion 5 years ago, but we were told by two different structural engineers that we would need to lose an existing bedroom to get the stairs up, then someone recommended Jamie. He took one look and said ‘no problem’, a few days later we had the plans fully drawn up and ready to go. The programme was tight and in the middle of winter, not the best time to take your roof off, we didn’t have to worry though, the roof was on and off in a day or two and all work completed on time. The lads were friendly and efficient, what surprised me was they were always busy, that may sound strange, but when you are paying good money for something I get frustrated if I see people standing around not doing anything as I know it is me paying for it, I did not ever have that thought. The quality was great and you always knew they were available if you called. Would I recommend them ? Definitely so, as we have just had Alvaston undertake a kitchen extension, which we are delighted with as well. Not easy undertaking major works with four small children in the house, but it was obvious they were all conscious of that throughout both builds.

They did a loft conversion for us Feb last year, we were quite tight on time due to being pregnant with twins and couldn’t be happier with the job they done. Alvaston were brilliant as we had our whole house taken back to bare brick.The kitchen was drawn up over night by a employee who is a kitchen fitter. The drawings of the kitchen was precise to the milometer. The rest of the house we and the builders had ideas. We decided to mix ideas and ended up with a superb house which was brought up to a very high spec for a old building. Workers arrived just before 730am every morning and worked until after 5 every night. Worked very hard and all staff were very pleasant and professional. Alvaston converted both our loft and garage in October this year and we are thoroughly delighted with the work that has been carried out. The team arrived promptly everyday and worked hard all day. I was always provided with information on the progress and advised on different issues that occurred as we went along. The workmanship was excellent, in particular the tiling on the roof around the velux and dormer windows. Things really seemed to go like clockwork with various specialists (plumber, electrician, plasterers, bricklayers, etc) arriving to work on the next stage towards completion.

In truth, before the work started I was both looking forward to the end result of having the work done and but also dreading having the house turned upside down! However, the Alvaston team were quick, efficient and thoroughly professional. Disruption was kept to an absolute minimum. The whole team were also extremely personable and friendly which also helped to make it a positive experience.

We had a loft conversion and new roof, quite a large job, and the thought of months of upheaval was not something we were looking forward to. Jamie came to see us and we were told that Alveston would complete the work in 5 to 6 weeks and they did! No corners cut just shear hard work, sometimes working 12hour days so we were water tight. Jamie and jimmy were always at the end of the telephone both at weekends and evenings, and project managed from start to finish.
